Using the voice assistant

The voice assistant is there to save typing when your hands are busy or dirty. You speak, and Openhood writes what you said into the form so you can review it. It is a typing aid, not a chatbot.

It types for you, it does not talk back

The assistant is text-only. It never speaks aloud, and it never sends anything to a customer on its own. Everything it drafts is yours to confirm.

How it works on a job or inspection

A voice control sits at the bottom of the job page and the inspection runner.

  1. Tap the voice control to start. You will hear a short connect sound.
  2. Speak naturally, for example a finding, a measurement, or a note.
  3. Watch the transcript appear so you can see what Openhood heard.
  4. The assistant drafts the matching change into the form. Review it.
  5. Confirm to keep it, or correct it like any other field.

The transcript shows what was heard first, then the draft lands. You stay in control of the row.

You always confirm

The assistant proposes; it does not decide. What it heard becomes a draft change against the form, and that draft is applied through the same checks as if you had typed it. While a command is being applied, the control shows a short Processing state so you can tell listening from working.

Where voice will not act for you

Voice can update internal job and inspection records, but the things that need deliberate human sign-off stay behind their normal confirm steps.

  • Customer messages are never sent by voice.
  • Money, billing, and authorisations always require a tap to confirm.
  • Time entries, because they are money, are confirmed by you before they are logged.

A correction is always one tap away

If the assistant mishears, just clear or retype the field, or say the correction. Nothing is final until you confirm it, so a wrong draft is harmless.

What you see versus what is kept

The live transcript and toasts on screen are there for fast feedback. The lasting record of what changed is the saved job or inspection itself, plus Openhood's internal evidence log, not the words scrolling past on the control.
